Stevie Wonder - I started listening to Stevie Wonder around the late 70’s. A friend played me the Talking Book album that had been released in 1972 - Stevie was 22 when that album came out. He was singing, co-producing, writing the songs and playing most of the instruments himself. I was totally impressed by his ability to layer up all the rhythm tracks using live drums, moog bass synthersizer, fender rhodes piano and clavinet. This production approach was groundbreaking and later inspired many soul artists such as Prince to work in this way”. Jeff Beck - He has been described as the guitarist’s guitarist. Jeff Beck has influenced countless guitarists over the years and has been a my one of my favourite players since I heard him on the Blow by Blow album released in the seventies. It’s a very funky collection of tracks with heartfelt and expressive lead playing, especially on the Stevie Wonder song Cause We’ve Ended as Lovers. That track was played on a modified Fender Telecaster direct into his amp set up and it it’s just pure class”.

Michel Legrand - ”Michel Legrand is a French film music composer, arranger, conductor and pianist. He is a musical genius and at the age of 82 he is still touring the world playing concerts. My favourite soundtrack album The Thomas Crown Affair was described as a Jazz Symphony. It contains the grammy award winning song The Windmills of Your Mind and the haunting His Eyes Her Eyes. His string arranging is very inspirational and his piano playing rivals the greats of jazz. Legrand’s music is a always on my playlist”
